Module 03 · Screener

Find the exact stocks
you're looking for

The Screener filters the whole PSX down to just the companies that match your rules. Start from a ready-made template or build your own screen with dozens of filters, custom columns and a plain-text query. This guide covers all of it.

The big picture

How a screen comes together

Screening always follows the same rhythm. Once you see the four steps, every control on the page has an obvious place.

01

Start

Pick a ready-made template for an instant screen, or begin from a blank slate and build your own.

02

Narrow

Add filters: index, sector, valuation and quality ranges, hundreds of deeper metrics and technical indicators.

03

Shape

Choose which columns the results table shows, then sort and page through the matches.

04

Act

Save the matches to a watchlist or export them to CSV or Excel. Fine-tune with the text query any time.

Step 01 · The fastest start

One-click templates

Not sure where to begin? Open the Templates menu and pick a ready-made strategy. One click loads its filters, clears anything else, and jumps you straight to the matching companies. Tweak from there or use it as-is.

Step 02 · The everyday filters

Index, sector & core filters

These filters sit in a bar right under the templates, always visible. This is where most screens are built: pick where to look, then set the numbers that matter.

Filter bar
TemplatesSectors · 2All IndicesP/E 10–20P/BDiv Yield ≥ 5%ROE ≥ 15%D/ERev GrowthPerf %

Highlighted pills are active filters. A count like "Sectors · 2" shows how many you've picked.

First, where to look

Index

Restrict the screen to one index, such as KSE-100, KSE-30 or KMI-30. Pick one at a time, or leave it on All indexes for the whole market.

Sector

Tick one or more sectors (Banks, Cement, Technology and so on). Unlike the index, sector is multi-select, so you can compare a handful of industries at once.

Then, the numbers

Each filter offers quick preset bands, or type your own minimum and maximum for an exact range.

P/E Ratio

Price versus earnings. Lower usually means cheaper relative to profit.

Under 10 · 10–15 · 15–20 · Over 50

P/B Ratio

Price versus book value, comparing price to the company's net assets.

Under 1 · 1–2 · 3–5 · Over 5

Dividend Yield

Annual dividend as a percentage of price: your cash return from holding.

Over 10% · 5–7% · Under 3%

Return on Equity

How efficiently the company turns shareholder money into profit.

Over 25% · 15–25% · Under 5%

Debt / Equity

How much debt the company carries against its equity. Lower is safer.

Under 0.5 · 1–2 · Over 2

Revenue Growth

How fast sales are growing year on year.

Over 30% · 0–15% · Negative

Profit Growth

How fast the bottom line is growing year on year.

Over 30% · 15–30% · Negative

Market Cap

Company size. Filter for large, mid or small caps.

Over 100B · 10B–100B · Under 1B

Return over a period

Filter by price performance too: choose a window (1D, 5D, 1M, 3M, 6M, YTD, 1Y, 3Y or 5Y) and set a minimum or maximum percentage return. Great for finding momentum, or avoiding it.

Step 02 · Go deeper

The full metric library

Need something beyond the everyday filters? The All Filters window opens a library of hundreds of metrics, organised into groups covering every part of a company's accounts.

Filter groups include

Price & VolumeValuation & RatiosTechnical AnalysisPerformanceMarginsRevenue / SalesNet IncomeEarnings Per ShareCash FlowExpensesCash & DebtAssets, Liabilities & EquityBalance Sheet StrengthDividends & BuybacksShares OutstandingFinancial PerformanceShort SellingTaxesStock SplitsREIT MetricsFair ValueCompany Info

Browse and tick

Open All Filters, expand any group and tick the metrics you care about. Use Apply all to add a whole set, or Clear all to start over.

It becomes a pill

Each ticked metric appears as a removable pill next to your core filters, where you set its own minimum and maximum. Remove the pill to drop the filter.

It adds a column

Every metric you filter on is also added as a column in the results table, so you can see the exact values you screened for.

Step 02 · Chart signals

Technical indicators

Fundamentals tell you what a company is worth; indicators tell you what its price is doing. Open the Indicators window and tick any conditions you want to require.

Moving Averages

  • Price above / below SMA 50
  • Price above / below SMA 200
  • Golden Cross (SMA 50 > SMA 200)
  • Death Cross (SMA 50 < SMA 200)

RSI (14)

  • Oversold (RSI < 30)
  • Neutral (RSI 30–70)
  • Overbought (RSI > 70)

52-Week Range

  • At a new 52-week high
  • Within 5% of the high
  • At a new 52-week low
  • Within 5% of the low

Volatility

  • Low volatility (Beta < 1)
  • High volatility (Beta > 1)

They stack with AND. Tick more than one and a company must satisfy every condition to appear, so you can combine them with your fundamental filters for a very precise screen.

Step 03 · Shape the table

Choose your columns

The results table shows a sensible default set of columns, but you decide what appears. Add the data points you care about and drop the ones you don't.

Default columns

SymbolPriceChange %Market CapP/EP/BROE %D/ERev Gr %Profit Gr % Add more

Pick your columns

Open the Columns window and tick the fields you want on screen. Uncheck the ones you don't to keep the table focused.

Filters add columns too

Any metric you filter on from the library is added as a column automatically, so what you screened for is always visible.

Remove from the header

Done with a column? Remove it straight from the table header, no need to reopen the picker.

Step 03 · The matches

Read & act on the results

As you change filters, the table updates instantly and a live count tells you how many companies still match. Every column you added shows up here.

Sort & page

Click any column heading to sort by it. Show 10, 25, 50 or 100 rows per page, with the ticker column pinned so it stays in view as you scroll sideways.

Add to a watchlist

Save every matching company to a watchlist in one click, so you can track your shortlist without re-running the screen.

Download

Export the full result set to CSV or Excel to work with it in a spreadsheet or share it.

Reset

Clear every filter, indicator and column in one tap and start a fresh screen.

Step 04 · Power users

The custom text query

Every screen is also a plain-text query you can read and edit. It's the fastest way to build a precise screen once you know the fields, and it always stays in sync with the filters above.

Search query

Sector: Cement AND

Market Cap > 5000 AND

P/E < 15 AND

ROE > 20%

Run this queryCombine as many conditions as you like with AND or OR.

Operators you can use

: or =< >≤ ≥10–20AND / OR

Use a colon or equals for a simple match, the comparison signs for a single bound, a dash for a range, and AND or OR to join conditions.

Two-way sync

The query box mirrors your filters automatically. Change a filter above and the text updates; edit the text and run it, and the filters update to match.

Autocomplete

As you type, suggestions offer valid field names and operators, so you don't have to remember the exact spelling of every metric.

Run your own

Write a query by hand, then press RUN THIS QUERY. It's parsed into filters and the table updates instantly.

Put it together

Screen like a pro

A few habits that make the Screener faster and more reliable to work with.

Start from a template close to your idea, then adjust one filter at a time and watch the match count.

Add every metric you filter on as a column so you can sanity-check the actual values, not just trust the filter.

Keep screens loose at first: too many filters at once can cut the list to zero. Loosen the tightest one to open it back up.

Save promising results to a watchlist, then open each company's profile to confirm before deciding.

That's the Screener module.
